What purposes did the Law serve?

Dear Saints,

This week we continue our study in Romans. Remember our context that we talked about in the first week of this study. The Jewish members of the Roman church had been expelled from Rome, and only the Gentile members remained. When the Jewish community returned, they tried to force the Gentile members to accept the Jewish practice of the Mosaic law. Paul clearly explains that everyone (both Jew and Gentile) is free from the Mosaic law.

Why then does Paul call the Mosaic law “good”? What purposes did the law serve? What's with this section where he talks about a war within himself? How do New Covenant believers interact with the books of the law?

These are the questions I hope to answer on Sunday.

See you then,

Ben
