The Radical Love of Jesus
It's been a long and challenging year globally and nationally; many of us can say the same individually. That's why the recent Amazon commercial featuring the janitor singing “What the World Needs Now is Love” captured my attention. The lyrics of that 1960s classic are timeless, and the sentiment of the commercial was sweet, even though they're obviously trying to get you to buy things!
I imagine that was what God thought when He sent Jesus to earth: “What the world needs now is love.” Perhaps the most famous verse in the Bible is John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We know that God did not just feel love or act out of love; He is love personified (1 John 4). God's love is perfect, and as we celebrate Advent, I want to illuminate the Scriptures that characterize the perfection of God's love through Jesus Christ, a love so unlike what we know in the earthly realm that it can only be described as radical - “very different from the usual or traditional: extreme.”
I am excited to share the news of God's love, sent to us as a baby boy named Jesus, as we prepare to celebrate Christmas!
Blessings,
Ron
