Now United to Us
“In the New Covenant, the very same God who was far from us, is now united to us”
- Mark 6:45-52
Hey there Mosaic,
What would you say is the whole point of the account of Jesus walking on the water? What are the takeaways? Most of us, myself included, would probably jump straight to Peter! Right? Just like Peter, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and when we do, we can do great things for Him!
Did you know that Jesus walking on the water is recorded by Matthew, Mark & John (Luke doesn’t mention it), but it was only Matthew that mentioned anything about Peter getting out of the boat to walk on the water with Jesus? So, think with me: if the whole point of Jesus walking on the water is for us to “be like Peter and get out of our boat and do great things for God like Peter did….,” then anyone who reads this account in Mark & John will never get the point as they don’t even mention Peter.
Maybe, there’s something bigger, much bigger, that God is teaching us with this event. Maybe the point isn’t for you to “get out of your boat to get busy doing things for God.” Maybe -- and I could always be wrong -- but maybe the point is that Jesus, the God-Man, has come to “get in your boat” to be with you, to calm you, to love you, to complete you, to abide with you (and you with Him), to rest with you (and you with Him)?
In the New Covenant, the very same God who was far from us, is now in us, with us, united to us!
I hope you can join us this Sunday at Mosaic as we walk through this passage to rest in His great love towards us and see Him "get in our boat and calm the storm!”
See you then,
Walt Davis
