The Steadfast Faith of Christ

Aug 27, 2023    Brian Stroud

Hello Mosaic,

Last week, Walt took us into the deep end of the pool to teach us some profound spiritual truths about baptism. I may only be able to paddle in the kiddie pool, but I am still excited to share what God has shown me about baptism and God's faithfulness.

We call baptism a public profession of a personal commitment to follow Christ and let Him be the Lord of our lives. The act of faith has already happened, and baptism is just a way to let the world know about it. However, it's more than just a coming-out party for Christians. When we are baptized, our immersion into and emergence from the water mimics Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, reflecting His steadfast faithfulness to us, even when we are not always faithful to Him. Baptism reminds us of the depth of His faith - “He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8). Even when His followers ran away from Him or denied Him - “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

He is the same today as He was back then. He is faithful today even when we aren't, and out of gratitude for His faithfulness, we will obey His command to baptize new disciples in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Afterward, I hope you'll join us for a potluck lunch to celebrate - I know it will be a great lunch because of the good food y'all are bringing!

I look forward to sharing God's Word with you this Sunday!
